Grit
When I think of grit the first thing that comes to mind is silica dust. I know this may sound weird so let me explain.
One year ago this month my husband was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease. He was initially given two to five years to live. I could never go into all of the details in five minutes but, it is believed that the gritty silica dust from concrete is what triggered the scarring of his lungs.
This obviously has been very trying on our family of 8 especially since he has been the primary bread winner for over 8 years. When we made the decision to homeschool our children we decided he would be the main provider.
At the of diagnosis he was immediately told he could not work in his profession anymore and was put on leave from his job.
The most amazing thing of all has come of this tragedy though and that is my husbands strength and perseverance. So is inability to give up is the second thought I have when I think of grit.
My husband is the epitome of strength and determination. Throught the past year he has had numerous unfavorable doctors visits with less than favorable reports, a repeated denial of disability (still fighting that) and the thought of not being here for his family in a short while. Guess what? He is still standing, still pushing through.
I have watched his ever faithful relationship with God continue to grow. I watch him pray and wait on a word from the Lord everyday and even when he doesn’t get an answer that is desired he still pushes through. He even encourages me when I grow weary, he says God promised and God doesn’t lie.
It is grit that brought us in this thing and grit that will bring us out.
